Lion Rock, the marvel of Sigiriya in Sri Lanka
Lion Rock, or Sigiriya, is one of the most iconic sites in Sri Lanka and a true gem of Unesco World Heritage status. Built in the 5th century by King Kasyapa, this 200-meter-high monolith served as a fortress and royal palace. Visitors can climb over 1,200 steps to reach the summit, where they are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding jungle. Along the way, admire the famous frescoes of the "cloud maidens" and the mirror wall, once so polished it reflected the king's image. The complex also includes landscaped gardens and fascinating archaeological remains.
