Samaria Gorge: An adventure in the heart of Cretan nature

Samaria Gorge, located in the national park of the same name, is one of Crete's natural wonders and the longest gorge in Europe. Stretching over 16 kilometers, it offers breathtaking landscapes with towering cliffs reaching up to 500 meters high. The trail begins at Xyloskalo, at an altitude of 1,250 meters, and descends to Agia Roumeli, where you can swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Libyan Sea. This hike, lasting between 4 to 7 hours, is perfect for hiking and nature enthusiasts. Along the way, you'll have the chance to spot local wildlife, including the famous kri-kri, an endemic wild goat. The best times to visit the gorge are from May to October when the weather is pleasant and the park is open.
